Workshop: “Watching Time Passing By: Time Perception and the Sense of Sight”
Organized by Dr. Hannelies Koloska
September 9, 2024 – September 10, 2024
Organizer: Dr. Hannelies Koloska (HUJI and VISIONIS)
Time in one place for one person is not necessarily the same as time for another, even if both may be measured by the same clock. Whether John Berger or others - they all exposed their insight that human’s sensing of being in this world is essential for the perception of time (Berger, Demirel 2019). The subjectivity of time is at the heart of studies about art perception or social interaction and beyond that it has been argued that direct gazes between one person upon another produces a particular perception of the passage of time (Jusyte et al. 2015). This workshop will explore the extent to which the perception of time is subject to concepts of seeing and the ways in which the human gaze is controlled and directed by social, cultural and theological presumptions.
