We are very pleased to congratulate our current Fellow, Kassandra Miller, on her recently published book, "Time and Ancient Medicine: How Sundials and Water Clocks Changed Medical Science" with Oxford University Press.
Kassandra's book is the first comprehensive examination of the impact of new clock technologies and the concept of hourly timekeeping on the theory and practice of ancient medicine. It raises questions and suggests new ways to think about the interplay between time and medicine, challenging the dating of "clock time" to the advent of the mechanical clock. The book also explores previously untranslated ancient material, providing invaluable insights into the works of Galen and other less celebrated ancient physicians.
